Venues: Citadel Hill

Overview | Capacity | Location | Menus | Testimonials | Frequently Asked Questions

Experience a huge part of Halifax's history…while enjoying the great outdoors! Completed in 1856, the Citadel Fortress' ironstone walls and ramparts were built on a hill overlooking the city to provide a first line of defense against naval intruders. The landmark houses a military museum, garrison cells, soldiers' barracks, and a powder magazine. Once monopolized by defence interests, the sweeping, panoramic view of the harbour and its approaches is now a must-see for your guests. While they are taking in the sights, they are sure to marvel at the Old Clock Tower at the base of Citadel Hill-the picturesque and stately structure built by Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, in 1803.

Citadel Hill provides meeting spaces in the North Magazine and the Soldier's Library. The Garrison Grounds offer an unparalleled outdoor experience that exudes a sense of history, while providing a wealth of space-a dynamite setting for large functions. Speaking of dynamite, don't be surprised if you hear cannon fire-the daily signal to Haligonians that noon has struck.
