The newest event venue in Halifax is also the most unique. Successful local businessman Mickey MacDonald wanted to give something back to the community he calls home so he took the dilapidated building that was once the landmark Vogue Theatre on Gottingen Street, completely renovated it and turned it into a world class boxing club. In addition to being an incredible contribution to the local boxing community, Palooka's Boxing Club is also a truly unique setting for a variety of events. While the renovators were careful to maintain the original brickwork, the space has otherwise been renovated completely. It now features a stage, balcony seating, banquet seating for up to 200 guests and of course, a boxing ring. The club has already played host to a variety of events from fashion shows to formal dinners.
Mickey MacDonald's vision for Palooka's is "to provide a home that promotes positive choices, hope, growth and opportunity though continuous learning and physical activity." This vision seems to shine through in any event that takes place at Palooka's as it is as much a part of the atmosphere as the boxing ring itself.
